2017 Passive House Summit

Posted on Posted in Upcoming Events

On Nov. 29 – 30, the Metro Toronto Convention Centre will host the third annual Passive House Summit at IIDEX. Comprised of four seminars, the summit will explore policies, principles, case studies and future directions of high performance building. Footprint and Smith + Andersen are proud to be the Gold Level sponsors for this event.

Seminar 1: Build Better, Feel Better
The Passive House Standard is starting to disrupt in the Canadian construction industry. Building professionals, developers, manufacturers, and public officials alike are all turning to the standard to deliver high-performance buildings and differentiate themselves in a competitive marketplace. But what exactly is a Passive House? This seminar will explore the fundamental principles and practices behind the world’s leading high-performance building standard.

Seminar 2: The Future is here: Net Zero Ready, Zero Emissions & Passive House
Build Smart: Canada’s Building Strategy is now in place. Setting the country on a clear path to high-performance buildings. This session will provide a survey of the Federal & Provincial strategies to transform buildings and their components, and how the Toronto Zero-Emissions Framework and the policies of Oxford County align.

Seminar 3: Zero is not the Goal: Start actually building low-energy structures, not just talking about them.
Using Indwell’s three current Passive House multi-residential projects as case studies, you will learn how to overcome the barriers to creating net-zero/energy-efficient buildings faced by owners, the design team, and contractors. There will be specific technical details presented on wall systems, HVAC, etc. as well as plenty of opportunity for dialogue.

Seminar 4: The Feasibility of the Passive House High-Rise
The Passive House standard is used internationally for all types of buildings. As the demand for tall residential buildings grows, FXFOWLE’s report finds that is it feasible to build high-rises to the Passive House standard in the North East. What are the impacts of achieving the standard from an architectural and mechanical systems perspectives? How does one navigate the constructability and cost of tall Passive House buildings? This seminar will touch on these questions, and more.
