Thank-you to the Consulting Engineers of Alberta for awarding The Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre the Recreational Award of Merit!
A joint initiative between the Government of Alberta, the City of Camrose, and the University of Alberta, this performing arts centre includes a 550 seat performing arts venue, a multipurpose space, dressing rooms and an orchestra pit. Significant sustainable design elements were incorporated in the design of the building, helping it successfully achieve a rating of four green globes.
The Green Globe uses the Model National Energy Code for Building (MNECB) as a reference to assess energy performance. Footprint conducted an energy analysis and optimized energy efficiency in order to meet the Green Globe certification requirements. The primary objective of the energy simulation was to determine annual energy consumption for the Performing Arts Centre and to compare the savings to energy consumption of a reference building. An energy model was created using IESVE 2013 energy modelling software.
The performing arts centre was completed in 2014, and was the first theatre in North America to use LED Stage lighting.
This Building Engineering Award was announced at the CEA’s Showcase Awards Gala last Friday. Footprint was proud to work with such an exceptional team on this project.
